Acquisition signals

What an acquisition record contains, how deal status and closing dates work, and how a deal that buys several companies is stored.

Acquisition signals tell you when a company buys, merges with, or agrees to buy another. Each deal is read from the announcements that report it, resolved onto the same company records as funding rounds, executive moves, and hiring, and kept up to date as later articles report how the deal ends.

There are three ways in:

  • GET /v1/acquisitions lists deals across every company we track, newest first, with filters. One credit per deal returned.
  • The MCP server tool acquisitions takes the same filters.
  • Webhooks push each new deal to you as acquisition.created.

What a deal contains

Every deal has an acquirer and a target, each a full company record with domain, location, industry, and size where we have them. It also carries:

FieldWhat it means
sellerWho sold the target, when the articles name someone other than the target itself, such as a parent company or a private equity owner.
dealAmountUsd, dealAmountUsdCentsThe price in US dollars, converted when the deal was priced in another currency. null when the price was not disclosed.
dealAmountOriginalCurrency, dealAmountOriginalCentsThe price as announced, before conversion.
paymentTypecash, stock, mixed, or undisclosed.
isMergertrue for a merger of two companies rather than one buying the other.
announcedAtThe day the deal was first announced.
statusWhere the deal stands. See below.
closedAtThe day the deal closed, once an article reports it.
expectedCloseAtThe day the deal is expected to close, when a specific date was announced.

Deal status

statusWhat it means
announcedThe deal was agreed or announced, and no source has yet reported it closing.
completedThe deal closed. closedAt holds the day when a source states it.
terminatedThe deal was called off or blocked, for example by a regulator.

A deal moves from announced to completed or terminated when a later article reports it, so the same record changes status rather than appearing twice. A deal that closed quietly, with no closing announcement, stays announced.

Filter by status with the status parameter, repeated for several values:

curl "https://api.datahyena.com/v1/acquisitions?status=completed&since=2026-10-01&countries=US" \
  -H "X-API-Key: dh_live_..."

closingAt is deprecated. It holds closedAt when the deal has closed and expectedCloseAt otherwise. Use those two fields instead.

One deal per company bought

When one announcement covers several purchases, for example a wealth manager buying two advisory firms on the same day, each company bought is its own deal with its own target. Each one can be filtered, watched, and delivered on its own, and the acquirer's history shows every purchase.

Filters

Filter the list by status, paymentType, minAmountUsd, maxAmountUsd, isMerger, countries, industryGroups, naicsCode, verticals, domain, companyId, and date range. Location, industry, NAICS code, and verticals match the target. Webhook endpoints take the same filters, listed on Filters.
