Hiring signals
What each hiring signal means, how the company hiring profile works, and what coverage to expect.
Hiring signals tell you what a company is building right now. They are read from companies' own job boards and careers pages, turned into typed, dated events, and resolved onto the same company record as the company's funding rounds, acquisitions, and executive moves. A company that raised a Series A last month and just opened a VP of Sales role is one query away.
There are two ways in:
GET /v1/hiring-signalslists hiring events across every company we track, newest first, with filters. One credit per signal returned.GET /v1/companies/hiring(one company) andPOST /v1/companies/hiring(up to 25) return each company's current hiring profile. One credit per profile returned.
Both are also available in the MCP server as hiring_signals and company_hiring, and hiring events can be pushed to you with webhooks.
Signal types
eventType | What it means |
|---|---|
leadership_opening | A C-level, VP, Head of, or Director role opens. A new budget owner is on the way. |
founding_role | A company opens a founding or first-hire role in a function, for example a Founding Account Executive. The function is being built from scratch. |
role_family_scaling | Three or more roles in one role family are open at once and make up a real share of the company's openings, for example four SDR roles at a 15-person company. |
technology_hiring | The company starts hiring for roles that name a business tool, for example Salesforce, Snowflake, or SOC 2. Beta. |
hard_to_fill | Roles in a function have stayed open for 60 days or more. Standing roles open for over a year are excluded. |
These types follow as weekly history builds up, and are listed here so you can plan for them:
eventType | What it will mean |
|---|---|
team_buildout | A function with no open roles opens several at once. |
hiring_surge | Open roles grow sharply compared with the week before. |
hiring_freeze | Open roles drop to zero or fall sharply, and stay down. |
location_expansion | Roles open in a country the company has not hired in before. |
leadership_filled | A leadership role that was open for at least two weeks closes. |
What a signal contains
Every signal carries the company, the event type, the function and role family it is about, when it started (announcedAt), whether its roles are still open (active, endedAt), and up to ten of the roles behind it. Each role has its title, function, seniority, role family, location, posted date, and link, plus the salary range and technologies when the posting states them.
Filter the list by eventType, function, roleFamily, seniority, technologies, countries, activeOnly, domain, companyId, and date range.

-H "X-API-Key: dh_live_..."Role families
Role families are the persona a role belongs to, which is usually what you map your product to: sales_development, sales, sales_engineering, revops, gtm_engineering, partnerships, marketing, demand_gen, product_marketing, content_brand, customer_success, support, software_engineering, hardware_engineering, infrastructure, security, data_engineering, data_analytics, ml_ai, product_management, design, recruiting, people, finance, legal, it, operations, science, and production.
Company hiring profile
The profile answers "what is this company's hiring stance right now?" for a list of accounts. Resolve companies by id, domain, name, or LinkedIn URL.
curl -X POST "https://api.datahyena.com/v1/companies/hiring" \
-H "X-API-Key: dh_live_..." -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"companies":[{"domain":"stripe.com"},{"linkedinUrl":"https://www.linkedin.com/company/supabase"}]}'Each profile contains the number of open roles, open leadership and founding roles, open roles by role family and by function, the business tools the roles name, the hiring signals from the last 90 days, and a stance:
stance | Meaning |
|---|---|
building_founding_team | At least one founding or first-hire role is open. |
building_leadership | Two or more leadership roles are open, at least a quarter of all openings. |
building_gtm | Go-to-market roles are at least 40% of openings. |
scaling_engineering | Engineering roles are at least half of openings. |
hiring_steadily | The company is hiring across functions without one clear focus. |
none_open | The company's board lists no open roles. |
no_public_board | We found no public job board. This does not mean the company is not hiring. |
traits lists every stance that applies, most significant first. A company we have not read yet is read straight away and comes back with status building; ask again in a few minutes. Nothing is charged for it, or for a company we cannot resolve.
Coverage
Hiring signals cover companies with a public job board or careers page, which is most growing companies but not all of them. Many early-stage companies hire through email or referrals and post nothing. When we find no board, the profile says no_public_board rather than guessing.
Today we read over 500 companies with a public board across 17 hiring platforms and careers pages in 40+ countries, tracking 7,000+ open roles. That set grows every day, prioritised by recent funding, acquisitions, and executive moves, and any company you look up or add to a watchlist is read on demand. Boards are re-read weekly.
