# What the funding data actually says.

We hold a lot of funding data, so from time to time we go looking for what is in
it and write up whatever turns out to be interesting. Each one shows its working.

## A Series A in India is a seed round in America

Same money, different word. What 7,049 rounds say about a label nobody agrees on.](https://datahyena.com/research/series-a-in-india-is-a-us-seed-round)

## How these numbers are produced.

Same pipeline that serves the API, so the figures here are the figures customers get.

### Deduplicated before counting

Where several publications report one raise, it is one round in every figure here, not several. Counting articles instead of events is the most common way this kind of analysis goes wrong.

### Dated by announcement, not ingestion

Every window is keyed on when a round was announced. Using the date we recorded it would let a historical backfill rewrite last year.

### Resolved to companies and investors

Each event is attached to a canonical company and the investors on the round, so a regional or investor cut means what it says rather than grouping by a name string.

### Gaps stated, never filled

Where evidence does not identify a company, an amount or a country, the field is left empty and the caveat is published with the report. Nothing is estimated to make a chart tidier.
