Privacy Policy

How Datahyena collects, uses, and protects your data. Written plainly, no legalese where we can help it.

Last updated · June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data Datahyena collects, why we collect it, and how we use it when you use the platform: the API, webhooks, and the dashboard.

We write this in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at [email protected].

1. What we collect

1.1 Account data

When you create a workspace, we collect:

  • Business email, name, and encrypted password
  • Workspace name, role, and notification preferences
  • Email addresses of team members you invite

1.2 API and integration data

To operate the API on your behalf we store:

  • API keys we issue to your workspace, so we can authenticate and meter your requests
  • Webhook endpoints you configure, so we can deliver signals to your systems
  • Request metadata: the endpoints you call, query parameters, response sizes, and credits consumed

1.3 Usage and technical data

Automatically collected when you use the platform:

  • API request logs, error logs, rate-limit counters, and performance metrics
  • Pages visited and features used in the dashboard
  • Browser, OS, device identifiers, and IP address

1.4 Billing data

Payments are handled by Kelviq, our payment provider. We pass your billing email and workspace ID to Kelviq; Kelviq stores card details, billing address, and tax identifiers directly. We never see or store your payment card information.

2. How we use your data

2.1 To run the product

  • Authenticate your API keys, serve the signals you request, and meter your credit usage
  • Deliver signals to the webhook endpoints you configure
  • Send transactional emails: billing receipts, usage and account alerts
  • Provide customer support and respond to your questions
  • Process your subscription and credit purchases via Kelviq

2.2 To improve the product

  • Aggregated, de-identified usage data is used to improve coverage, data quality, and performance
  • Your query patterns are not sold or shared, and are never used to train models for other customers

2.3 For security and compliance

  • Detect abuse, prevent fraud, and protect the platform
  • Comply with applicable law and respond to lawful government requests
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

3. The data we serve

Datahyena aggregates publicly available business events, such as funding rounds, acquisitions, and executive changes, and resolves them to canonical companies and investors.

  • We only use information that is publicly available
  • We do not access private accounts, restricted content, or anything behind a login
  • The dataset describes companies and public business events, not your private contacts or customer lists

If you believe a record about your company is inaccurate, email us and we will review it.

4. Who we share data with

4.1 We do not sell your data

We don’t sell, rent, or trade your account or usage data. Your workspace data is yours.

4.2 Service providers

We use a small set of third parties to run the platform, all bound by data processing agreements and able to use your data only to provide their service to us:

  • Infrastructure, hosting, AI compute, and CDN providers
  • Kelviq for payment processing and subscription billing
  • Trusted email and privacy-focused analytics providers

We may disclose data when legally required to comply with a subpoena, court order, or lawful government request. We will notify you unless prohibited by law.

4.4 Business transfers

If Datahyena is acquired or merges, your data may transfer to the acquirer. You will be notified and given any rights required by law.

5. Data security

  • All data in transit is encrypted with TLS
  • Sensitive data at rest is encrypted
  • Passwords are hashed; API keys are stored hashed and shown only once at creation
  • Role-based access controls, continuous monitoring, dependency audits, and access logging

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and API keys private, and for rotating any key you believe is compromised.

6. Retention

While your account is active

We retain account data, API keys, and usage logs for the duration of your account.

After closure

  • Account data is deleted within 30 days of closure
  • Billing records are retained as required for tax and audit compliance
  • Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days

7. Your rights

You can:

  • Access the data we hold on you
  • Correct anything inaccurate via your dashboard
  • Export your account data
  • Delete your account, which we action within 30 days
  • Manage notification preferences and unsubscribe from non-essential emails

GDPR (EEA users)

You also have the rights to erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8. International transfers

When data is processed outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and require recipients to provide equivalent protection.

9. Cookies and tracking

We use a small number of essential cookies for authentication, session management, and security. Our product analytics is privacy-focused: no cross-site tracking, no advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting.

10. Children’s privacy

Datahyena is a B2B platform. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and will delete it promptly if we learn we have.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this policy occasionally. Material changes are announced via email and a notice in the dashboard. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
